In the last years Excimer laser is being applied together with a cornea surgery on the high diopter myopic eye. This method is called as LASIK.The first method of excimer laser used is PRK. In the PRK method the laser is applied directly to the corneal surface.But in the LASIK method, a thin corneal flap(160 or 180 microns) with a nasal or superior hinge is separated from the surface.After the laser is applied, the flap is get closed to the cornea. With this method the result is better and the risk is minimal.In the PRK method the patient can not open his/her eyes during 2 days after the laser treatment. But in the LASIK method the eyes are not closed after the surgery. Patient can go to work the day after surgery. So, the LASIK method is preferred. The sight in the LASIK is slightly blurred on the first days as it is on the PRK method. But this blur disappears day by day.The best sight will be within 10 days.

Laser PRK and LASIK methods can be applied to astigmatism and hyperopia too.

Is Laser harmful?

Everything in our life has a risk. Nevertheless, Excimer Laser has not an important risk.The most frequent complication seen is over or under correction. It is easy to correct these problems.

There is no blindness risk or damage on the eye by the Excimer Laser.
